James Savage-Hanford

James started singing as a treble with the Tiffin Boys' School Choir and as a chorister at Kingston Parish Church at the age of 11. Alongside numerous international tours and CD recordings, James featured alongside Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu as the 'Shepherd Boy' in Puccini's Tosca (conducted by Antonio Pappano) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The role also resulted in a CD recording of the opera for EMI at Abbey Road studios (again under Pappano), and a DVD film release by Opus Arte.

James spent three years singing with the chapel choir of Emmanuel College Cambridge as a baritone and then a tenor. Tours with the 'Emma' choir took him as far as Mexico, Boston, Sweden and Tuscany, and resulted likewise in the recording of a CD (on general release by Priory Records) on which he features as a soloist.

Since graduating in 2008, James has become involved with a number of choirs based predominantly in London, where he has recently finished a Masters course in Music, focusing primarily on the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski.

James currently has lessons with Jeff Stewart at the Royal College of Music.
